Oilers- This is Us

There's something undeniably special about playoff time in Edmonton. Oilers jerseys can be spotted everywhere on the drive to work. Oiler flags can be seen flying from rusty pickup trucks, Teslas, and Dodge Caravans. People like me, who have never been athletes, get excited about a sporting event. High-fives among strangers happen a lot during a playoff run. People talk about the games at work, and managers tend to be extra gracious when it comes to people heading home a bit early to get ready for the games.

These days are about a team, but broadly speaking, there’s more to this excitement. Those of us who love this community know at our core that cheering for the Oilers also feels like we’re cheering on something much bigger.

We have a great, hard-working, and resilient team. Those qualities also define the character of our city. I've said this a few times on my blog, but to be an Edmontonian is to be tough. We have entrepreneurial grit and a vision for what lies ahead. We love celebration, and we lift up the underdogs. We endure while the rest of the world loves to talk trash about us. We do this with our own trouble-making Draisaitl smile.

Edmonton is a great place to live, with potential that we have yet to realize fully. This team and this city are worth believing in.

When we cheer the Oilers, we're cheering us.

These are great days to be living here. Enjoy these moments.

Have fun Edmonton! GO OILERS GO! WE WANT A CUP!
