Common People

“When European mariners first came across Asian mariners, no one was surprised that they both used sails.”

That’s a line from Andy Weir’s book “Project Hail Mary” that stood out to me instantly. I underlined it because it gave words and shape to a beautiful idea—one that has transformed the way I see people and the world around me.

Truth is never exclusive. No one group has a monopoly on it.

While one culture was building sailing ships, another culture was dreaming up the same technology on the other side of the globe. Recognizing this, we would all be better off entering the world with the perspective that good exists and often thrives outside of our knowledge.

I find hope in knowing that our toughest challenges are shared. Others understand your struggles. Others are also trying to find solutions. I find that encouraging. I hope you do too.
