My TV Show Pitch

Dear television executive

I would like to pitch an idea for a new 45-a-50-minute reality-based show called "The Great Canadian Campfire."

Here's the premise:

Jordan Majeau meets around a campfire with two Canadian leaders to discuss issues that matter to them.

It's not a debate. 

No campaigning allowed.

It's conversations meant to promote understanding, the great Canadian outdoors, and tasty food. Inspired by Jerry Seinfeld's "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee". This show is essentially "Canadian Leaders sitting around a Campfire eating Doritos." 

The setting:

Each episode would be filmed during the evening around a campfire in a Canadian national park—a different park for every episode.

The format:

Each episode would begin with an indigenous elder sharing a story that comes from the land. Recognition would be given to indigenous peoples in an effort to amplify their voices and culture. The show would serve to remind Canadians that all of our conversations happen on land that pre-dates colonization. Each story would serve as a reflection to help frame the theme of the evening’s discussion around the fire.

Jordan would thank the elder and welcome two guests to join him at the campfire. The leaders could be political leaders, business leaders, activists, artists or academics. These guests would be leaders who hold differing views about how we live life in Canada. Possible episodes could be:

“Elizabeth May and Danielle Smith.”

“Justin Trudeau and Pierre Polievre.”

“Mark Carney and David Suzuki.”

“Jann Arden and Doug Ford”

“Wab Kinew and Rex Murphy”

Jordan would prepare snacks at the campfire and share them with the guests. While cooking, Jordan will ask questions and give the leaders the chance to answer and discuss.

Campfire rules:

Leaders must respect the conversation and each other.

Those seated at the campfire must present their point of view with clarity while being gracious to the other person.

Joking is permitted and encouraged because that's what we do in Canada around a Campfire.

Agreement is not necessary. Civile conversaiton is.

The show would always ensure guests are presented in the best light possible.

Each episode would conclude with handshakes around the campfire.

The goal:

The goal of the Great Canadian Campfire is to model constructive conversation and encourage Canadians to build their own campfires where they can continue the dialogue.

Finally, I conclude my pitch by saying Canadians want to see conversations like this in our country. Please consider the idea of the Great Canadian Campfire for your network. I would love to help you produce this show!
