Yes to Canada
I do like to travel. I love seeing what's out there and having new experiences all over the world, but I love the feeling of the plane landing on Canadian soil when I come home. This is why: I am proud of what our country can become. I'm also proud of the hope it represents abroad. When I drive to work along 107th or 111th Ave here in Edmonton, I'm always moved when I see new Canadians with their kids getting ready to hop on a school bus. We are the country that said yes to including these new children who will become the leaders of the future. Lives will be saved because of the doors that were opened in this generation. I'm certainly not the first to say this, but no one should mistake our compassion for weakness.
Majeaus have been farmers in Alberta for a very long time now, and the stories that I was raised with were the ones that said if someone was stuck on the side of the road, the most Alberta thing you could do is recognize that your strength was a temporary privilege that should be shared with the one who needed help. This is the example my grandparents set, and one I want to pass on to my kids.
The "Alberta is a victim" mentality is new...and it sucks.
The evidence is plain: in recent years, when our province has been on fire, the country has shown up to help us. It’s also backing us up like never before, and I count it as a privilege to see what we'll build in the future.
Yes to Canada!
No to the Nine!
