Bedtime Questions

There's an old idiom that says that you have to sleep in the bed you make—a poetic way of saying that we have to live with the consequences of our actions. I don't fully accept the concept because I'm well aware that many sleep in beds made by others. However, I have several questions that I ask myself when trying to hold myself accountable for what I'd like to stand for. If these are helpful, feel free to use them. If not, it's ok to generate your own. But here we go:

Did I make someone else feel brave?

Did I enjoy more than I complained?

Did I reach for a towel before I reached for a sword?

Did I create before I critiqued?

Did I say something kind to others?

Did I say something kind to myself?

Did I remember to treat peace like the fragile treasure it is?

Did I not demand these questions of others?

If I can answer yes to all of these questions. I can accept the results of the day, whether they yield good results or not. I wouldn’t be satisfied with a win if I answered 'no' overwhelmingly to these questions, and on the flip side, I can live with a loss if I answered 'yes' in my own self-reflection.

Friend, thanks for reading. Whatever this week has brought you, I hope you sleep well.
